Our Department

The Department of Pharmaceutical Services at UCSF has long been nationally recognized as one of the founding fathers for clinical pharmacy services, which was established in 1965. Today, the department continues to lead the profession through the integration of advanced technology & robotics, comprehensive pharmaceutical care and clinical services. The UCSF Department of Pharmaceutical Services currently employs over 200 staff working over multiple campus locations in the city of San Francisco. Visit Our Department

In October 2010, UCSF Medical Center opened a new automated hospital pharmacy believed to be the nation's most comprehensive facility using robotic technology and electronics to prepare and track medications to improve patient safety.

Bar code medication administration (BCMA) was implemented at UCSF in February 2012. The addition of BCMA with the existing robotic pharmacy has enhanced medication safety at UCSF.
